After all this wasted rain Just got a flicker of the sun It scared me We rarely get to end what we've begun The torments of my faith are gone for good But I'm eager to trust the flame and fallout From your pain and lust I've shaken off the cobwebs And we've painted over all the rust We're here at last without the past Come on baby Take these cardboard boxes Wake your fears Today we unpack our belongings Spread so thin over the years You're insisting that space is a compatriot But time is still your enemy The hours, the stars You are I say we ride that wave until it ends It's alright to bend away from heaven Just acquaint my shadow with the light You were You are

Comfort the faithful Because they've got nothing now Second to none There's grace in the gravel Felt like a fortune But the groveling's done A sideways companion Still sacrificial i walked where you ran Where you run There comes a point that I can't preach Becomes a point that I can't reach Do me another favor, skip the speech My haven becomes the point that I can't reach by dark Call me ungrateful Though I want nothing but Someone to fuck and to flood Who's left to bury me once the city sleeps? Swept underneath my rug Anywhere there's water I'll be making mud Pushing my luck My bad blood Could you ask again when it's too late? Much better to ask me when I'm half-awake Once it looks like we would have to wait forever And there's no room to separate Could you ask again when it's too late? To dine alone in the dark In the black of my heart Begging you to be fooled Straining to be apart Wake me unfaithful Once I've got something new When push comes to shove…shove I'll tell you one thing And then I'll show you two Take me to task Call my bluff There comes a point that I can't take the freedom Becomes a point that I can't make Anywhere there's water I just take the bait…believe it The only prisoner at the gate who freezes Forage forever but I need nothing now Nothing but love

Without my gloves to numb Your hands to what we've done You'll hesitate But don't be afraid to run You're in my blood Pretty little litterbug With my experience And your debris You tried to hide it from me Well of course I'll miss you kid Of course I'll miss your lips Don't blame the circumstance We're never worth the risk I got off You never came back You never came back to bed In touch With all that we lack The villains inside my head Still miss your violence If you supply the victim I'll create the need Don't try to hide it from me Well of course I'll miss you kid Of course I'll miss your lips Don't blame the circumstance We're never worth the risk The very least you could do And the very best I can be Your debris I tried to hide it from you Your debris Don't try to hide it from me There's no need Pretty little litterbug Reassured and reviled We're never worth the risk

It’s not hard to remember But it’s easier to forget This steep surrender Lifts us so easily Like a sunrise Is that why I defend her From the shadow contingencies ’Til I’m part of her plan? It’s not hard to remember The reason I fall for the Wildfire of her ability To change my mind I’m not immune A riddle by design She’s a creature of a different kind She stops me cold And when we bathe in flame Her lips remind me this is not the same She’s a creature of a different kind I’ll never know why she puts so much faith in me All the mazes led us here today and finally crossed It’s not hard to remember But it’s easier to forget She's a creature of a different kind

about

"After all this wasted rain, just got a flicker of the sun. It scared me."

As the band's first new record release since 2014, Alibi will begin a series of three interconnected EPs that serves as the debut for a new lineup. Drummer Matthew Lauritsen, bassist Matt Heymann, and keyboardist Ryan Deeter join frontman/songwriter Steven Kaiser to bring forth the band's self-proclaimed atomic rock. Recorded at Mission Sound and Sandbox Studios in Brooklyn with engineer Bob Mallory, the EP unravels around Kaiser's involvement in a drawn-out affair that began during the recording of Mice and ended shortly before he began working with Lauritsen on the tracks that would become Alibi. The music dances and sways through cycles of intimacy, confusion, and estrangement. Drummer Bryan Garbe (Oak and Ash) and vocalist Chloe Swopshire make guest appearances on the second half of the EP.

"After Mice, my life seemed to be headed in a different direction and I felt that I'd reached the end of the project in its 'bedroom' form," says Kaiser. "But Children Having Children essentially exists as the outlet for things I can't say any other way, so when I found myself at an unexpected dead end in my personal life without the ability to convey and make peace with the experience verbally, I needed something to get me over the wall. The songs once again did the job, showing me a way out and leading me to meet Matthew at an integral moment. Our intersection opened up the gates for a bigger, more powerful version of the band. He was the perfect partner to bring me back into the trenches."
